The City of Albany is the hub of the Great Southern region in Western Australia and is located 412 kilometres south east of our state capital, Perth. Albany’s history remains the most significant in this state as it was the first European settlement in Western Australia and boasts more than fifty buildings of historical charm. The city is surrounded by a rugged granite coastline, magnificent scenery, pristine white beaches and is blessed with one of the finest natural harbours in the world.
Albany is now a thriving multicultural city with a population of approximately 35,000 people. Major industries include tourism, agriculture (wool, beef and grain), aquaculture, fishing, wood chipping and mining. Albany’s deep water port services the export of many of its industries.
Albany is currently at the forefront of major development, which, include the $1.4 billion Southdown magnetite project, a $50 million waterfront development and the Lignor timber production plant. With the lifestyle Albany offers, coupled with strong employment opportunities, it is no surprise that the city receives around 500,000 visitors per year.
